I''m in transit in the British Air lounge as a guest of one of the "girls"from the trip. It is so nice to have access to internet, a shower and snacks. I did shop the galleries at the airport to use up the last of my Rand, and now I'm just waiting for the flight. I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep, to help with the long journey.
Yesterday we had a wonderful time on the Elephant Ride, as we rode for an hour on safari. We didn't see any game, as the river is dry now, but we did see a lot of birds and brush. I loved the gait of the elephant, and of course just being with them was a treat.
In the afternoon I returned to the gorge with my friend Shannon and were Flying Foxes, as we each got two leaps across the gorge. Let me tell you it can be addictive!
Our evening sunset cruise on the Zambezi River was AMAZING and I am sure I will not be able to capture it's magic in words. We were in a small river boat that has some kind of engine that does not require any depth, so we were able to go swallow and what a gift that was. We saw hippos, and crocs; loads of birds and an amazing encounter with 5 rogue elephants.
We spotted the elephants on an island in the river, and began to work our way down to the point of the island. When we got there so did the elephants! We were face to face, no more than 5 ft from them. Elephants have horrible eyesight, and so we stayed calm and quiet, which was easy as they took our breath away! Then all of a sudden one of the elephants but it's trunk up against the butt of another, then the call was made and all 5 of them lined up and pushed their way into the water.
We had loads of time for pictures, gawking, awing and appreciating! I can't wait to see some of the groups pictures, as my camera's battery had died out 2 days ago. We were treated to hippos "fighting" with their mouths wide open, tons of birds roosting on 2 trees for the night, and a magnificent sunset. It truly was a magical last night in Africa.
This morning I got up in time for sunrise, and then Shannon and I went to the Falls for another visit. What an amazing place, so much power and beauty it touches my heart. We were gifted to see 3 Kudos (which are large buck like animals) pound across the pathway as we strolled to the Falls. At the Falls we were blessed again by a double rainbow.
Our trip ended as we all transfered to Zambia for our flight to Joburg. I'll be home tomorrow and then.....Key West bound over the weekend. Blessed be...
