This morning our wake up call came at 4:45 and we hit the trail at about 5 PM. It was still dark with just a bit of daylight showing with clouds and drizzle. The first 45 min was light rain and then it began to rain, raw, wet and sleety on my face. The rain came hard against my face and I had to keep my eyes closed some to protect them. Frank took us toward the lion area but was concerned that the road would be to slippery. We went to the edge of a valley and he felt it wasn’t safe to go on, so he turned around. I watched as he came to a fork in the road and made his decision to go right- boy was it! We came upon the 4 , 13 months cubs 3 females, 1 male. We spent about 10 min with them and headed off feeling quite blessed. A bit further I saw the shape of a mane in the brush and pointed it out to Frank. It was the male with the mother who Frank had warned us was quite aggressive. She did growl a bit at us which sounded like a deep purr. At one point the male tried to mount her, but she was not having it with an audience. We spent 5-7 min with them then headed off. What a great last drive. Back at the lodge for breakfast, packing, goodbyes and showers and then it was off to Port Elizabeth to catch our flight to Johannesburg. We are now at our hotel in Pretoria. Tomorrow we board the Rovos Rail to Victoria Falls!
