10/3/07 –
I awoke to rain this morning, so the yoga practice was bedside rather than poolside. Quick breakfast this morning as today we check out of the hotel and move out of Cape Town. We toured through the city a bit by car, and then headed out to Stellenbosch and the wine country.

Our first stop was the museum where we walked through 4 homes. The first was one from the 1600s, Dutch influence with the thatch roof and Dutch door. Then on to the 1700s, 1800s and late 1800s. My favorite was the copper shower with a little tub, a large sunflowerisque showerhead and a storage area for the water to be poured into.

Then it was on to our wine tour. The estate was outrageously beautiful; our tour guide was the best I have had. I learned a lot and enjoyed the presentation. 3 of us enjoyed appletizer, which is an apple juice/sparkling water drink, while the rest tasted 5 wines. I was the only one to buy wine from the group which was funny.

We enjoyed lunch and decided to shop in town rather than do another tour. The town looked a lot like Santa Barbara to me. It is influenced by the University and is set like in a valley and hillside under the mountains. The shops where unique and I found a few gifts, mailed a postcard and chatted with a few locals.

Then it was off to Hermanus on a spectacular seaside drove with the mountains on our left and the sea on our right. It pounds strong here with large curling waves, and lots of spray. Our hotel is right on the cliff and after checking in “Dora the Explorer” took off to walk the Cliffside and look for whales with my roommate Sonita. We found them! Oh, are they so much fun to watch.

I took a few pictures and then realized I was missing the connection. So, I put my camera down and sat there with the sunset behind me OM-ing to them. The next thing I heard was one of them moans back to me. Yes, I will take it personally thank you! It was a Divine moment.

I am a bit tired of eating “set” meals, as it is a bit restrictive for me and Sonita (who is a vegetarian.) I told our tour guide we were going to pass on dinner and go off on our own. She gave us our “allowance” and we found a lovely Italian restaurant. Sonita had the best pasta she has ever had, and I enjoyed Cannelloni with spinach and feta. It was nice to have meal that was quiet and unhurried.

Tomorrow we go on a whale watch and then journey up the Garden Route. MORE TIME WITH WHALES!
